Community Storytelling for Action
Guest speaker: Amy Braunschweiger, Human Rights Watch

Learn how to share your story from an award-winning journalist, while supporting positive change and collaboration in our communities.

Nearly 63 synthetic chemicals are in the average American home. Many of these chemicals are found in cleaning products and are unsafe to those who frequently use them. Join the Human Impacts Institute Saturdays to explore health impacts, DIY non-toxic recipes, and how to work together to improve our community. Hear from experts in healthcare, media, advocacy, and community organizing, while sharing stories
with your neighbors about the past and future health of our families and neighborhood!

Participants who attend all four workshops will receive a certificate of Health and Community Advocacy from the Human Impacts Institute.

These are the other workshops in the series:

Saturday, February 21st
Environmental Justice and Consumer Advocacy
Investigate how health risks impact us in different ways and share strategies on how to come together to prevent and respond to pollution threats as a community.

Saturday, February 28th
DIY Non-Toxic Cleaning
Guest speaker: Ogonnaya Dotson-Newman, WE Act for Environmental Justice
Take a look at how your cleaning products rate for health and safety and join us in making your own, safer alternatives to reduce risks and prevent pollution. First 20 registered will receive a DIY nontoxic cleaner kit.

Saturday, March 7th
Health Impacts of Toxins in the Home and Workplace
Dr. Stephen Dahmer, Lead Physician, Freelancers Medical Manhattan
Explore how to choose healthy products by understanding labels on our cleaning, food and beauty products, while learning from a medical doctor the impacts household chemicals have on our families, workplace, and communities.

This project has been funded in part by a grant from the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation, Environmental Justice Community Impact Grant Program and funding provided by the NYS Pollution Prevention Institute through a grant from the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation.
