Life After Death
Life After Death Rwanda, USA, 2014, 75 minutes
Director: Joe Callander
Rwanda, recovering from 1994 genocide, is awash in well-intentioned Americans "adopting" troubled and traumatized young men who see the adoption as an opportunity to improve their lives and make some money. Kwasa is a clever young man who plays along for his charity-minded, Christian benefactors and the American filmmaker in tow, but soon the life guidance and short-term job opportunities start to show Kwasa's truly rebellious spirit. Beautifully made and subtly told, Life After Death gives us glimpse of the complexities involved in the always trendy saving of Africans.

After Auschwitz Jan Sobotka
Each year more than 1.5 million people travel to Auschwitz to visit the former Nazi concentration and extermination camp. For future generations more than one hundred thousand historical objects have to be preserved carefully piece by piece. Meditatively watching the conservation work reveals the ephemeral nature of the objects and offers an opportunity to reflect on the content and the future of the cultural memory after Auschwitz.
