San Francisco Mime Troupe Posibilidad
The San Francisco Mime Troupe will return to Arena Theater with their 2010 production Posibilidad or Death of the Worker. Written by Michael Gene Sullivan and Ellen Callas, and directed by Wilma Bonet, the new show - billed as a modern tale of two factories, telenovelas and tango"- imagines what might happen when a group of workers in a small U.S. factory refuse to be "downsized". A small U.S. factory is shutting down. All of the workers are losing their jobs, and to add insult to injury, they have also lost their last two weeks of pay and retirement funds, which were raided over the years to pay stock dividends. On the final day of work, a pregnant employee, suddenly overtaken with labor pains, sits down on the job. Interpreting this as an act of defiance, The Boss calls security. The situation escalates and before anyone has a chance to think, the Workers have accidentally occupied the Factory! Posibilidad continues the Mime Troupe tradition of writing and staging original shows based on topical issues creating plays that make audiences feel the impact of political events on their personal lives. Past productions by the Tony Award-winning company, now in its 51st season, have focused on themes such as election fraud, the banking crisis and genetically modified foods. The New York Times has said of the San Francisco Mime Troupe, Anyone concerned about the state of global politics -- and about the state of political humor -- should listen to the Mime Troupe's message. For more information, visit www.sfmt.org. The performance will begin at 7:30 PM with a 30 minute music set under the direction of Pat Moran. The show begins at 8:00 PM. The Arena Theater Bar and the snack stand will be open.
