Blind Buddy Moody + Ben Prestage [08.27.10]
FRIDAY, AUGUST 27 @ WILL'S PUB
BLIND BUDDY MOODY plus guest Ben Prestage
Blind Buddy Moody is a native Floridian and a veteran of the southern juke joint circuit. In decades past he appeared on bills with George Jones, Tammy Wynette, Waylon Jennings, Sammi Smith, Kenny Price and Ernie Lee. Buddy is a past winner of Florida state championships in vocals, harmonica, dobro and flat picked guitar. Blind since birth, he has formal music training only on violin and is otherwise a self-taught musician. Buddy is influenced by the music of Jimmie Rodgers, Hank Williams and Jerry Lee Lewis and his sound is the synthesis of blues and country-and-western music.
Buddy released a live concert CD entitled, See No Evil that featured his raw country blues recorded live in a Florida juke joint. The disc showcased Buddy's traditional song stylings and his direct, emotional vocals that are a throwback to country music's classic performers and a breath of fresh air in today's music scene. Featured songs on the disc included the Jimmie Rodgers classic 'T For Texas' and Blind Buddy's 'Take My Blues With You'. Creative Loafing magazine awarded Buddy for his effort with an award for "Best New Discovery" at their annual Best of the Bay Awards show in 2007. TBT magazine was just as impressed with See No Evil and named Buddy one of the 'Top Ten Acts in Tampa Bay' in 2008.
Buddy was discovered by The Mojo Gurus singer Kevin Steele, toiling in relative obscurity playing for tips at a local flea market. Now under the wing of Steele Management, Moody has recently opened for Charlie Louvin, The Mojo Gurus, Joe Buck, David Allan Coe, Pokey LaFarge, Dexter Romweber Duo and the Pine Box Boys as well as headlining his own shows.
