DESCRIPTION:
A hydraulic-fracturing recipe developed in 1996 for the Barnett resulted in the vertical-well breakthrough there, spawning shale-gas breakthroughs in the Fayetteville, Woodford, Marcellus and Haynesville. Meanwhile, frac'ed horizontals were deployed in the Bakken in Montana in 2000, breaking the tight-oil code there. Barnett developers took a further innovationswell packers and the staged fracto North Dakota, making the Bakken play possible there. These recipes made the Eagle Ford play commercial in just 10 monthsfrom idea to first commercial horizontal. And, now the Wolfcamp in West Texas. Here's how.
SPEAKER'S BIOGRAPHY:
Nissa Darbonne, author of The American Shales, the history of the shale plays, their founders and their leaders, began her journalism career in 1984 in the oil and gas fields of South Louisiana. She is editor-at-large for Oil and Gas Investor magazine, which she joined in 1998. Previously, Darbonne was the business editor for The Daily Advertiser (Lafayette) and a government correspondent to The Morning Advocate (Baton Rouge). She received her B.A. in English and Journalism from the University of Southwestern Louisiana, now known as the University of Louisiana at Lafayette.
