A Lincoln Portrait
The historic landmark Andrew Carnegie Free Library & Music Hall (ACFL&MH) launches its 2015 Civil War Sesquicentennial programming with a stirring President's Day concert. Allegheny Brass Band will perform a program of Civil War-inspired music, concluding with Congressman Tim Murphy's narrating Aaron Copland's haunting "A Lincoln Portrait." This beautiful orchestral piece incorporate the brilliant oratory of the 16th President of the United States.
Tickets $15 in advance/$18 at the door. (Children 12 and under $5.)
President's Day also marks the official opening of the Library & Music Hall's new "Lincoln Gallery." The exhibit features 100 photographs of Abraham Lincoln, from an 1847 daguerreotype to the only know photo of the slain President in his coffin.
The Lincoln Gallery is adjacent to the ACFL&MH's rare Civil War room, the Captain Thomas Espy Post No. 153 of the Grand Army of the Republic.
The Lincoln Gallery and Espy Post will be open from 2:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., and then immediately after the concert for ticket buyers, who are invited to a dessert reception with the performers.
Limited free parking is available on site. Shuttle service from free parking on Main Street will run before and after the concert and reception.
