Basic Introduction to Welding with Bob Bownes
This class will be an introduction to the welding methods available at the CoG. The CoG offers gas (torch), Metal Inert Gas (MIG), and TIG (Tungsten Inert Gas) welding as well as the use of a plasma cutter.
This class will include an approximately one-hour classroom session about what soldering, welding and brazing are with a specific focus on welding. It will look at some basic metallurgy, methods for determining what kind of metal you are working with, and what constitutes a 'good' or 'bad' weld and how to determine how good a job you have done. It will examine the basic weld geometries and methods.
This is followed by a two-hour hands-on session on Feb. 15 from 10 am to noon, where paired students get a chance to practice hands on with MIG, TIG, and gas welding of steel and aluminum.
