Mary Flower with Spud Siegel
Mary Flower with Spud Siegel, February 21st.
SFS is thrilled to bring Mary Flower back to the Phinney Center Stage for the Seattle area CD release of her critically acclaimed When My Bluebird Sings. This CD was featured in Downbeat Magazine as one of the best for 2014. Unlike her earlier albums, this one is all original compositions. Mary will bring along Spud Siegel on mandolin.
Most recently, Mary received the 2014 Cascade Blues Association's prestigious "Muddy Award" in the Acoustic Blues Category. She has been nominated for Handy (Blues) Awards in 2008 and 2012, and is, plain and simple, one of the very best finger picking guitar players out there.
Mary's finger-style blues playing, deeply rooted in the Piedmont blues tradition, also pulls from ragtime traditions. She plays lap-slide guitar with roots in Mississippi blues. She complements her instrumental prowess with exquisite alto vocals. A Seattle audience favorite, she makes the blues come alive in live performances with her down-to-earth banter and sense of humor.
Mary has a long and storied career as a musician including early success with the famed (carefully pronounced) Mother Folkers out of Denver. She moved from the rarefied air of mile-high Denver to Portland ten years ago, and with ten albums to her credit, Seattleites have a living blues legend residing a few hours south of our fair city. www.maryflower.com
Tickets are $16, $2 discount for SFS members and seniors, $8 for youth. Day of show tickets at the door are $2 more. Feb. 21st, 7:30 PM, 6532 Phinney Ave N (Lower Brick Building).
