Is The (Real) News Dead? International Conference
The accuracy and believability of the news is vital to the continued health of a vibrant democracy. The information provided by our news services whether it be by television, radio, print or the Internet, opens windows on our world and conveys to us the essential data we need in making decisions about our health, welfare, security and allegiances.
In recent years we have witnessed a rapid transformation in the media as the Internet and its many news sources have muscled in on the territory of traditional vehicles of communication. This struggle raises important questions about the future of the news and the role the media plays in our lives. Who, today, controls the traditional media and who will control the alternative media in the future? What, if any, is their agenda? What are our news services' priorities and is providing fair, balanced and accurate news coverage one of them?
This conference will address these issues in a friendly and open environment on the beautiful grounds of Pepperdine University's Villa Graziadio Executive Conference Center. Speakers and panelists have been drawn from a wide variety of media backgrounds and political orientations.
Anyone seeking answers to questions about the media, its role in our lives and its future trajectory will enjoy this conference and emerge from it far better informed about the many challenges which confront the continued delivery of accurate, fair and verifiable news in our society.
