QTET
WHAT IS QTET?
Queer Teen Ensemble Theatre (QTET) is a unique program giving voice and artistry to LGBT youth in the Seattle community. Produced by the Washington Ensemble Theatre and led by co-artistic director Jessica Hatlo, it is a city-wide summer theatre workshop that provides a creative outlet for queer teens and their friends to express who they are and where they come from.
Using the Ensemble's model for ensemble-generated new works, the students will collaboratively produce a piece of theatre based on their own experiences surrounding identity, love, and queerness. The month-long intensive begins with directed free-writing that is eventually shared with the group and is later used to generate something new. This phase continues until there is a sense of cohesion. Later the text is molded into a working script.
The curriculum includes workshops led by members of the Washington Ensemble Theatre and opportunities to be involved in all aspects of the final production. After three evening performances, the members of QTET will join together once again to march in the annual Seattle Pride Parade on June 27th!
With statistics showing that 9% of high school students identify as gay, lesbian, bisexual or questioning, Washington Ensemble Theatre is proud to offer a place for these emerging voices to express their struggles, triumphs and unique perspectives on the stories they tell best their own.
