Event
Olallieberry and Strawberry U-Pick & Picnic, June 26th, 10am
Join us as we head south to Swanton Berry Farm (www.swantonberryfarm.com) for our first U-Pick & Picnic of the summer. An olallieberry is a 20th-century cross between the loganberry and the youngberry (each of which is itself a cross between a blackberry and another berry).
The Olallieberry season is very short, and Swanton is the only certified organic farm that hosts olallieberry U-Picks. They will also have plenty of strawberries for you to pick. For those of you who do not know Swanton, it was the first organic farm in the U.S. to contract for union labor.
The plan is to gather at 10 am (the farm is just south of Ano Nuevo state park, about 80 minutes from Oakland), pick olallieberries and strawberries, have a farm tour and share a picnic lunch. The cost for this event is $14 per person, and includes the tour, a picnic lunch and a basket of strawberries or a half-basket of olallieberries. Whatever else you pick, you buy directly from the farm ($2.50/lb. for strawberries, $4.00/lb for olallieberries). Space is limited.
