Square Dance
Circle to the north, circle to the south, put a little moonshine in your mouth! Come on out Friday, February 6th to Mayo Street Arts for some square dancing. Square dancing is as easy as pie and fun enough to warm away the winter blues. No experience necessary, all welcome. Musical accompaniment will be provided by an all-star cast of Portland old-time musicians. And if you're wondering what square dancing looks like watch this - http://youtu.be/tX-SnNxFHfc
Square dancing starts at 8:00 sharp, but come out at 7:00 for a free clog dancing workshop with Peter Winne (member of local string band Tumbling Bones). He'll be teaching a traditional Appalachian style of percussive dance that goes by many names - clogging, flatfooting, buckdancing - but it's basically stomping your feet in style. Check it out here - http://youtu.be/WcqSkA6WRSQ. No special footwear required, but if you got leather-bottomed shoes wear 'em!
