WHO: Intimations Dance and Inclined Dance Project WHAT: Inclined | Intimations WHERE: The Dance Complex WHEN: March 13th & 14th at 8pm
Performance:
Intimations Dance - With the point of entry of being watched as dancers, we are exploring themes of obsession with self, others and body constructs. What is socially acceptable to be obsessed with? What is not? Our goal is to have the audience reflect on their own experiences 'performing' in their daily lives- when they are watched, when they are given attention, and when they are directed verbally or physically to 'be' a certain way.
Inclined Dance Project presents Stuck Together Pieces, an exploration in connecting, disconnecting, and re-connecting. The work delves into the complex bonds of human beings within both physical and mental space, exploring how environment, distance, and personalities affect how we interact with each other. Inclined will also be presenting the premier of Temporizer, which examines dominant and reticent energies.
Artist Biographies:
Intimations Dance "Intimations" as a word has so many meanings depending on the context. Used in one context, it means to express something as a whisper, or as a shout. As another, it refers to one's essential or innermost meaning. The word can also be used to describe a close friend or confidant. The company's mission is to give voice to our social concerns through collaborative choreographic process based work in hopes of connecting with the audiences' shared experiences. The primary concerns over the last year for the group have been environmental destruction envisioned through patterns in nature, and our gut reactions to our bodies as women being watched, judged, and shaped by others. Company members participate in the creative process as both dancers and choreographers, and the company positions performers and/or participants central to developing, offering and creating movement.
Inclined Dance Project, founded in 2009 by Artistic Director Kristen Klein, is a contemporary dance company based in Brooklyn, NY. Since its creation, the company has performed at various venues and festivals throughout New York and New England including Baruch College, the Center for Performance Research, Chen Dance Center, Triskelion Arts, Dixon Place, The Flea, University Settlement, the Ailey Citigroup Theater, The Muse Brooklyn, the John Ryan Theater, The Gowanus Arts Building, the Silk City Arts Festival, and the International Festival of Arts and Ideas, among others. Fusing classic dance vocabulary with the quirky, familiar gestures of everyday life, Inclined creates dance works of contemporary athleticism inspired by ever diverse human experiences. Inclined approaches dance-making through a set and destroy method, allowing the performers the opportunity to deconstruct the material and incite dialogue, exploration, and personal contribution to a work. The end result is athletic, technical, and dynamic movement that challenges the dancer and engages audiences. The company has been featured in Critical Dance Magazine, offoffoff Dance, FitEngine, Dance Spirit Magazine, and on DanceMedia.com. For more information, please visit www.inclineddanceproject.com.
