A Midsummer Night's Dream
We are a mobile theater company, putting on productions in empty storefronts and other large spaces. We incorporate Promenade, a non-traditional form of theater where the entire space becomes the stage and the audience experiences the story along side the actors. Seating is scattered about the space, but the audience is encouraged to move freely about the space, standing or sitting as desired.
The story of A Midsummer Night's Dream has three intertwining plots. The first is about four lovers who are all in a mixed love circle. Rebelling against the laws of the land and the will of a father, all of the lovers journey off to the woods for different reasons. As they stumble about the woods, the mischievous fairies place love spells upon the men and confusion abounds. The second plot is about the upcoming marriage of Duke Theseus to the Amazon queen Hyppolita. In celebration, five tradesmen go off into the woods to prepare a play in honor of the wedding. The fairies create mischief again and poor Bottom is changed into a donkey. He then goes on to have an interesting encounter with the fairy queen who professes her love to him.
The third and final plot is the quarrel between the King and Queen of the Fairies. They fight and play pranks on each other as well as the humans who happen to be nearby throughout the night. The King casts a love spell upon his Queen, making her fall in love with the poor Donkey Bottom.
Craziness and comedy abound in this wild play, how will it all be straightened out?
