Gumshoes in Tap Shoes
WHO: Ryan P.Casey & Dancers WHAT:"Gumshoes in Tap Shoes" WHERE:The Dance Complex WHEN:February 6th & 7th at 8:00 p.m.
Performance:
This percussive parody of crime noir interweaves storytelling with the infectious beats of dancing detectives, rhythm-making mobsters, and fast-footed femme fatales. Featuring period jazz music from artists like Duke Ellington and Henry Mancini, this new show proves that it's no mystery why Casey and his tapping troupe are a hit! Special opening acts each night add to the amazing performance with TAProject on Friday and Legacy Dance Company on Saturday.
Bio:
The "improbably tall tap fave" known for his "rocketing rhythms and stylish moves" (The Boston Globe), Ryan P. Casey uses his towering, 6'8" talent to create engaging, inventive, rhythm-based tap work that is at turns thoughtful, comical, and satirical. Incorporating poetry, humor, and more, Casey and his Boston-based cast, featuring co-choreographer Kelly Kaleta ("Imagine Tap!") have presented original, full-length shows throughout the Northeast. They have also performed with the Inside/Out series at Jacob's Pillow, Southern Vermont Dance Festival, Massachusetts Dance Festival, Dance for Life Boston, Dance for World Community Festival, and countless other festivals and showcases. In 2014, Casey's choreography earned him a grant from the Massachusetts Cultural Council. The company is proudly represented by Jodi Kaplan & Associates and supported by Creative Ground, and they eligible for New England States Touring (NEST) funding. They are available for full concerts, workshops and lecture-demonstrations, as well as smaller shows or as guest artists.
