Howard Alden, guitar, with Berkeley Choro Ensemble
Please note that this concert has been moved to a venue two blocks from the original home concert in North Berkeley, to St. Albans Episcopal Church, 1501 Washington Street, between Curtis and Neilson, 1 block off Solano Avenue.  The overwhelming response through advance ticket sales prompted us to move to a larger venue so that no one would be turned away!

There is an elevator for anyone with special needs.

Thanks to everyone who purchased their tickets in advance!

Berkeley Choro Ensemble joins forces with famed NYC guitarist Howard Alden, to present a program of Brazilian Music and Jazz. The ensemble consists of Jane Lenoir, flute, Ricardo Peixoto, 7-string Brazilian guitar, Brian Rice, percussion and pandeiro, and Howard Alden on 7-string guitar.  Selections will include music by Pixinguinha, Jacob do Bandolin, Jobim, Ricardo Peixoto, and standard jazz selections.   We will feature some Brazilian Choro, which is  traditional instrumental music from Brazil.  This style of music is a synthesis of European classical music popular in Brazil in the 19th Century and Afro Brazilian rhythm.  Today, Brazilian Choro music is experiencing a new wave of popularity, with Paquito D'Rivera, Anat Cohen, Howard Alden.  Yo Yo Ma and other well-known jazz and classical musicians celebrating Brazilian music as part of the repertoire.  In May, 2015 Berkeley Choro Ensemble will perform at the Berkeley Fetival of Choro at the Freight and Salvage in Berkeley, joining forces with the magnificient Trio Brasileiro from Brazil.
