The Shaker Chair by Adam Bock
Because Shaker chairs are supposedly uncomfortable, they transform people from sitters to do-ers, from passive observers to those who take action. Marion, a middle-aged widow who has recently purchased a Shaker chair, finds her life literally shaken up when a friend draws her into an incendiary environmental dispute. This edgy, often funny play has a very serious point: Action can be exhilarating but it also can lead to unforeseen consequences. Inaction is probably safer, but is life about being safe?
