Don't miss the final run of the Vintage Comet wine tasting train! Back by popular demand, wildflower watchers and wine lovers can once again ride vintage trains at the Western Railway Museum.
The train departs at 4pm for a 90-minute ride to take advantage of the beautiful late-afternoon light.
Adult passengers 21+ sample and learn about four local wines from members of the Suisun Valley Wine Co-Op. Suisun Valley is the second oldest AVA in California (Napa is the first), and is the next major valley east of Napa.
Best known for Petite Sirah, Merlot, and Cabernet Sauvignon, Suisun Valley has been described by Sunset Magazine as "undiscovered and unpretentious, much as Napa was in the 1960s. Cool afternoon breezes from San Francisco Bay bring down high daytime temperatures a good thing for grapes."
Juice is available for younger passengers.
The name "Vintage Comet" has multiple references to wine, to history, and to honor an actual Sacramento Northern train, "The Comet," that ran from Oakland to Sacramento over the tracks the Museum now owns and operates as part of the Sacramento Northern National Historic District.
In addition, Museum docents will be on hand to describe the various wildflowers in bloom and visible from the rail line.
The Western Railway Museum is located on California State Highway 12 in rural Solano County, midway between Interstate 80 in Fairfield and the Sacramento Delta town of Rio Vista. The Museum is just one hour from San Francisco, Sacramento, Stockton, and Sonoma.
