Forget your troubles, come on, get happy! The award-winning 24th Street Theatre's 10th anniversary season, Season of Happiness, continues with the return of their flagship program, the SATURDAY EXPLORER SERIES. The 2007 schedule marks nine years of offering family audiences a groundbreaking, eclectic array of world-class performance artists, dancers, actors, musicians, and more.
April 7 at 1 pm - Nights Errant: A Fool's Nocture by Ten West Ten West is Jon Monastero and Stephen Simon, directed by Bryan Coffee. Blending physical virtuosity with poignant writing and a unique theatrical style inspired by vaudeville, commedia and clowning, Ten West is comedy at its most inventive. The LA Weekly gave Nights Errant a GO! pick and wrote "The two-man clown show is a wacky Dadaist trip...all very goofy, giddy, funny and executed with infectious charm." April 21 at 1 pm - Good Night by Mira Kingsley Mira Kingsley (Choreographer) is dedicated to the integration of dance and theater and the collaborative creation of new work. Mira's direction/ choreography has been seen at The Bam Next Wave Festival, The Guggenheim Museum, The Kitchen, The Joseph Papp Public Theater, REDCAT, The Edinburgh Fringe Festival (Scotland), ASU's Gammage Auditorium, The JVC Jazz Festival, The Seattle International Children's Festival, HERE, The Yard and Joyce Soho among others. She is currently completing a double Masters degree at California Institute of the Arts.
April 28 at 1 pm - My Mother's Son By Rodney Mason Transplanted to Los Angeles from Philadelphia, Rodney Mason is a Gulf war veteran. After retiring from the Marines, Rodney picked up where he left off, as an artist. While touring the world as a Dancer and Actor, Rodney received a Bessie award, Chicago Black theater award, and an Olivier nomination for his role of "Rome" in Rome and Jewels. Apart from theater, Mason has stormed the commercial world as Tanqueray's "Tony Sinclair".
May 5 at 1 pm - Ready? By Kristen Smiarowski with collaborators Peter Carpenter and Carmela Hermann Kristen Smiarowski's choreography has been presented nationally in California, Chicago, New York, New Jersey and Maine. Peter Carpenter, based in Chicago, is an independent choreographer whose physical theater performances have often intersected with political activism and critical theory. Carmela Hermann is an independent choreographer whose dances thoughtfully blend choreography and improvisation.
May 12 at 1pm - Love's Geography: Revisited By Sara Wookey Internationally acclaimed choreographer Sara Wookey explores a life made between two cities in Love's Geography: Revisited, a wry investigation of her attraction to two very different locales. Taking inspiration from Amsterdam and Los Angeles, with Peggy Phelan's poetic Love's Geography as a script, this new work communicates what it is to experience love across distance.
