Erik Larson: Dead Wake
Left Bank Books and Maryville Talks Books present Erik Larson, bestselling author of "The Devil in the White City" and "In the Garden of Beasts," who will sign and discuss his new book "Dead Wake: The Last Crossing of the Lusitania."
On May 1, 1915, a luxury ocean liner sailed out of New York, carrying a record number of children and infants. Germany had declared the seas around Britain to be a war zone, but captain William Thomas Turner placed tremendous faith in the gentlemanly strictures of warfare that had kept civilian ships safe from attack. Germany, however, was determined to change the rules of the game. As the "Lusitania" made its way toward Liverpool, an array of forces both grand and achingly small--hubris, a chance fog, a closely guarded secret--all converged to produce one of the great disasters of history.
$31 admits one and includes on copy of "Dead Wake." $36 admits two, includes one copy of "Dead Wake," and $5 is rebatable towards the purchase of a second copy of "Dead Wake" at the event.
