Solstice Concert by The Italian Duo
On one of the first stops on their U.S. tour, "The Italian Duo": Giulia Matteucci and Saverio Rapezzi present a Solstice Concert at Santa Monica Playhouse, welcoming the summer time with an exciting musical evening focused on lively and charming music by major composers of the 20th century.
Since 2001, Flautist Matteucci and Guitarist Rapezzi - both already recognized concert performers - have been performing together, taking part in important Italian and European concert seasons (Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences, Koninklijk Conservatory of Den Haag, Royal Theatre of Torino, Casa Paganini of Genova, Intercontemporanea Festival of Alessandria, and many others). In 2006 they won the 1st prize at the Chamber Music Competition "Citta di Grosseto."
Giulia Matteucci (flute). From an early age Giulia has won many awards in musical competitions. Presently she is a member of several Italian and international symphonic orchestras, as principal or second flute (Symphonic Orchestra of Rome, Symphonic Orchestra of Savona, Puccini Festival Orchestra of Torre del Lago, etc.). She also qualified for the European Union Youth Orchestra (EUYO) and for the Italian Youth Orchestra (OGI). Giulia's brilliant career as solo performer includes a long list of remarkable concerts and collaborations in Italy and throughout Europe. She studied flute at the Conservatory Boccherini of Lucca (Italy) with M. Conti and then at the University School of Music of Lugano (Switzerland) with renowned flautists M. Ancillotti and S. Parrino. She is currently studying at the S.Cecilia Academy of Rome with A. Oliva and at the International Academy of Imola (Italy) with M. Valentini. In 2009 she received the prestigious Bachelor Degree at the Royal Conservatory of Den Haag (Nederlands), with B. Fromanger.
Saverio Rapezzi (guitar). Saverio has degrees in Classical Guitar, Composition and Guitar teaching; he also studied guitar with remarkable guitarists such as Flavio Cucchi, Alberto Ponce, Alirio Diaz and others. He has won prizes in numerous musical competitions, including the IV and V Concours International de Guitare de Montelimar (France), XII Chamber Music Competition "Citta di Grosseto" (Italy), XII Musical Prize "Pietro Napoli"(Italy), and is extremely active as a concert performer for many prestigious musical institutions in Italy and throughout Europe. This is his first U.S. tour as guitarist. As composer, Saverio has studied with acclaimed composer Azio Corghi at the Royal Philharmonic Academy of Bologne and specialized in film music with renowned film music composers such as Ennio Morricone, Luis Bacalov, Michael Riessler and through the prestigious UCLA Extension Film Scoring Program. He can boast more than 100 compositions, between concert music and film music. In 2005 he won the 1st prize at the "International Music Competition" of Cortemilia (Italy) with his "Sonatina for Clarinet."
