Oni Dance presents: Exquisite.Corpse and Wasteland (arrival
Oni Dance will perform two world premiere dance works that thrust together body-based conceptual performance practice and dance theater. Exquisite.Corpse is a world premiere and Wasteland (arrival, shown in LA as a work-in-progress is being re-configured for the CounterPULSE stage. Exquisite.Corpse considers: What is a dangerous body? Does the grotesque elicit disgust or a compulsion to look closer? This work presents bodies and their boundaries as exquisite but malleable structures. Wasteland (arrival originally set in the round is a dance about grappling. After being thrown into a dystopia, the players are relegated to contact with the other contenders; their collaboration ultimately revealing the humor and the pathos that glue them together. This work narrates 4 different arrivals, making sense of the unfamiliar territories whose borders are untested. onidance.org
