Science: Rob Mitchell: Bioart and the Media
Bioart represents the artistic side of scientists, using living (and sometimes more traditional) materials to comment on, or even transform, biotechnological practice. From images of cell structures captured on computers to conventional impressions on canvas, bioart unites two realms of human endeavor often considered irreconcilably disparate. Duke University associate professor Rob Mitchell, author of Bioart and the Vitality of Media, offers a comprehensive theoretical account of the art form, exploring its relationships to both new media and scientific institutions. Presented as part of Seattle Science Lectures, with Pacific Science Center and University Book Store. Series sponsored by Microsoft.
