Brazilian Carnaval PDX 2015
Mid-February is Carnaval time and Bloco Alegria, Portland's main Brazilian percussion group, will bring their exuberant energy to transport us all to an amazing night in Rio. In addition to drummers and dancers our Carnaval show will feature special guest Ana Laidley with her powerful and authentic samba style.
Ana Laidley is an amazing sambista, born and raised in the midst of Mangueira, one of the most traditional Samba schools in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Ana is a master performer, teacher and choreographer and has lived in Los Angeles for the past 12 years. She has worked extensively in several states around the US and internationally, always sharing her passion and respect for this unique form of dance:SAMBA!
Come ready to party hard and dance your hearts out! Wear something festive, add feather boas, Mardi Gras masks, or special accessories. You may also choose your favorite soccer team jersey from last Summer's World Cup! There will be Brazilian food, caipirinhas, batida de coco, wine and beer for sale. We'll also have guarana, water, and other soft drinks.
