strange daughters by Jenni Cockrell
Jenni Cockrell brings us an evening of Butoh dance. Strong characters move us through space and time. Jenni has performed at the Asheville Fringe Arts Festival many times! Her last appearance was on the LaZoom bus tour in 2014, at Double Crown. We are proud to present her one woman show.
Jenni Cockrell/strange daughters butoh is a dancer, choreographer and teacher of butoh and modern dance. She has been an active dance artist for over a decade, choreographing and performing her own work in addition to that of Asheville Contemporary Dance Theatre, Moving Women, Legacy Butoh and Anemone Dance Theater. Jenni has regularly performed in the Asheville Fringe Arts Festival and the Re{Happening} as well as in Cuba and Mexico. She received her M.A. in Dance and Women's Studies from UNC Greensboro (2002), where her thesis project investigating female butoh artists won the Sally Schindel Cone Award for Excellence in Women's Studies. Jenni approaches dance as a laboratory to explore the quirkiness and rawness of life.
