Sexuality in Performance in Sexuality: A Double Standard?
Washington State has some of the most stringent laws in the US governing sexuality in performance, especially in establishments that sell liquor. Recently, Seattle's bourgeoning burlesque and cabaret scene has been subject to these laws, which have traditionally been aimed at strip clubs and gentlemen's clubs. In this presentation, Will Wright will provide a brief overview of the constitutional issues implicated by these laws, followed by a summary of the administrative licensing and review process. Actual examples will illustrate how these regulations have been interpreted and applied to adult entertainment in Seattle.
Will Wright practices in the areas of litigation, criminal defense and administrative law. He assists individuals and small businesses in regulatory and civil matters including licensing, formations and business operations, labor and employment matters, trademark and tort resolution. Additionally, Will is the current chair of the Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity Legal Issues section of the Washington State Bar Association. He is a seasoned performance artist and designer with over 20 years of professional performance experience.
Special Lunch Program: A boxed lunch will be provided to those who register by 5/19!
