06.01.10 FRESH Kick-Off! FRESH PERSPECTIVES ON LOCAL FOOD: AN EVENING CELEBRATING YOUTH GROWERS
Come celebrate!
This exciting and youth-oriented kick-off event will begin with a screening of "Planting for Peace," a 20-minute film co-written and edited by Mike Cermak and Boston-area youth. The film takes an up-close look at local young workers who are powering a new, urban food system. Following a short Q & A, thirteen-year-old Orren Fox will take the stage to share how he raises urban chickens and tends to buzzing honeybees (slideshow included), as well as what his Farm Club at school thinks about Boston's potential.
Kristin Alvarez, the incoming president of the Suffolk University Environmental Club, will speak about the youth-oriented work of the Food Project and the Real Food Challenge. The night will end with the trailer for FRESH and the distribution of FRESH film vouchers for coming screenings at Brattle Theatre that take place June 18-23.
Last but not least, Chive Catering will fuel the evening with delectable, locally sourced bites for you and your friends!
This event is brought to you by the Suffolk University Sustainability Committee. A portion of this event's proceeds will benefit local sustainable food efforts.
