KPCC's John Rabe hosts screening of German "Best Film" "John Rabe" with dir Florian Gallenberger
Hosted by John Rabe
Based on a true story, "John Rabe" tells the epic story of a German businessman who rescued more than 200,000 civilians during "The Rape of Nanking" in China. Drawing from John Rabe's 1937 diaries as source material, Gallenberger has crafted a portrait of a man revered as a saint in China to this day -- yet never rewarded for his courage during his lifetime. For KPCC's John Rabe, the story of his historical namesake underscores the vital question, "If you could save lives, but had to risk your own, what would you do?"
The film is directed and written by Academy Award Winner Florian Gallenberger and stars Steve Buscemi, Ulrich Tukur, Daniel BrÃhl, Anne Consigny and Dagmar Manzel. It was a 2009 Berlin Film Festival Official Selection as well as the 2009 German Film Academy Award Winner for Best Film, Best Actor, Best Costume and Best Production Design.
Join KPCC's Off-Ramp Host John Rabe for an interview with director and writer Florian Gallenberger and a screening of the entire film.
