Squaw Valley Community of Writers Poetry Reading Benefit 2010
On Friday, July 16, 2010, at 7:30 p.m., the 2010 staff poets of the Squaw Valley Community of Writer--"Kazim Ali, Forrest Gander, Brenda Hillman, Evie Shockley and Dean Young--"will read their poetry in the Starr King Room of the First Unitarian Universalist Society of San Francisco. This benefit reading will raise money for the Poetry Scholarship Fund at the Squaw Valley Community of Writers, and this year is also dedicated to the memory of beloved long-time staff poet Lucille Clifton, who passed away on February 13. Books donated by the poets and their publishers will be available for purchase before and after the reading, and the poets will be available to sign books after the reading.
READERS: For more information about the poets, visit the Community of Writers website: http://www.squawvalleywriters.org/poetry_ws.htm
This will mark the 19th year for this annual benefit event, and every year it is a standing room-only success. All proceeds will benefit the Poetry Workshop Scholarship Fund, enabling talented writers to attend the week-long poetry writing workshop held each year in Squaw Valley, California. It is the goal of this program to support both established and emerging writers of talent who would benefit from working with their peers at the Poetry Week at Squaw Valley.
