Comedy Returns to El Rio! (a Kung Pao Kosher Comedy production)
Comedy Returns to El Rio takes place every 2nd Monday of the month @ 8pm at El Rio. Monday, May 10th is our one-year anniversary show.
Comedian/comedy producer, Lisa Geduldig, (Kung Pao Kosher Comedy) began her stand up comedy career 21 years ago at El Rio in San Francisco's Mission District. She strives to produce multicultural, multi-everything comedy shows with the variety of shows she produces each year (Kung Pao Kosher Comedy, Funny Girlz, The Color of Funny). The line-ups are always a diverse cultural, gender, and sexual orientation mix, and her comedy productions showcase some of the funniest and smartest stand up comics from San Francisco and beyond.
The Monday, May 10th show features: Ngaio Bealum, Pippi Lovestocking, Tissa Hami, Candy Churilla, & Lisa Geduldig.
NGAIO BEALUM has always been funny. Starting as a street performer at San Francisco's Pier 39, Ngaio quickly moved indoors and became a San Francisco favorite. A finalist in the San Francisco International Comedy Competition, his great storytelling ability combined with his razor sharp wit and engaging stage presence never fail to leave any audience howling with laughter. He has appeared on ABC, MTV, BET, Comedy Central (most recently on The Sarah Silverman Program), and many other TV shows including Byron Allen's "Comics Unleashed" and Merv Grifin's "Crosswords."
PIPPI LOVESTOCKING is a staple on the Bay Area comedy scene. She has also appeared at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival and on Last Comic Standing.
TISSA HAMI is an Iranian-American Muslim stand-up comic. She grew up in a traditional family in a predominantly white suburb of Boston. Her parents are thrilled that she is using her expensive Ivy League education to pursue a career in comedy. Tissa has been featured in the Boston Globe Sunday Magazine, Washington Post, BBC, NPR, on the PBS documentary "Stand Up: Muslim American Comics Come of Age," and on ABC's "The View."
CANDY CHURILLA's dark, edgy act includes topics ranging from men, her love of cocktails, pop culture, and more. What this lovably twisted comic lacks in self-control, she makes up for in self-involvement. Her life started humbly enough in Scranton, PA where she learned to drink. As a little girl, she dreamed of escaping Scranton to make a better life for herself and she finally has--in Oakland where she hosts the monthly Backroom Comedy at McNally's Irish Pub. Candy won 3rd place in CA's Funniest Female Contest and appeared on Last Comic Standing.
LISA GEDULDIG is the creator, producer, & MC of a variety of annual comedy shows: Kung Pao Kosher Comedy; The George Bush Going Away Party; Funny Girlz; A Muslim, A Mormon, and A Jew Walk into A Bar; The Color of Funny; Comedy Returns to El; Rio, Cafe con Comedy; Charo.
