Celebrate Black History Month by saluting the pivotal contribution of Dr. Maya Angelou with sensational performers seen on TV, Movies, in the Theater, in Concert Halls and on Festival bills with some of the greatest American Artists: Dr. Maya Angelou (Medal of Freedom), Prince (Billboard Icon Award), John Handy (The Beacon Award), Nancy Wilson (Jazz Hall of Fame), Sly and The Family Stone (Rock & Roll Hall of Fame) & many more!  

With the rest of the Cabaret Underground Team: Sandy White, Narrator;  David Daniel, Bass, Marciel Garner, Drums;  Melvin Bell, Sax, G Mixing and Ed Dukowski, Videographer. Script by Mwanza Furaha.

Dr. Maya Angelou was an inspiring trailblazing leader in the arts and civil rights. She was a best-selling author (I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings), has received 50 honorary degrees, was nominated for a Pulitzer Prize, appeared in the groundbreaking TV drama Roots and was selected to read her poem On the Pulse of Morning at President Bill Clinton's inauguration - just a few examples of a life of leadership, creativity and inspiration.

The Musical Tribute to Dr. Maya Angelou will include poems from her books 'Just Give Me a Cool Drink of Water 'fore I Diiie', 'Phenomenal Woman', 'I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings', 'The Pulse of Morning' and several of her notable quotes.   Music will include compositions by John Coltrane and Dr. Angelou's recording 'Miss Calypso' (recorded in 1957). Script by Mwanza Furaha, including original settings of Maya Angelou's poetry to John Coltrane's Music.

Come see why this event is a big hit every year with original scripts by Dr. Mwanza Furaha and stellar musical performers. This event will be a completely unique, entertaining and family-friendly show about this remarkable culture-changing woman who has inspired so many in the US and around the world.
