Cooks & Books presents Planet Barbecue with Steven Raichlen and Tom Douglas
Join us for a night of tasty grilled bites from all over the world and an onstage conversation about "global grilling" with the world's grill expert Steven Raichlen. In his most ambitious book yet Raichlen visited 53 countries and collected 275 of the tastiest, most tantalizing recipes from across the globe--all cooked over fire. Inspired by the research of primatologist Stephen Wrangham, who argues in Catching Fire: How Cooking Made Us Human that cooking our food actually changed the way our minds developed; Raichlen traveled the world documenting the way cultures have cooked over fire for centuries--and lucky for us he collected recipes along the way! Yet this book is more than a collection of recipes, as Steven writes: "What matters even more to me than the authenticity of the recipes (and that matters a lot) is the story the recipes tell--about people, places and cultures and who we are as a species and where we fit in the world." Steven will be joined by our own famous Grilling Guy, Tom Douglas as they discuss the techniques used world-round to make the most delicious grilled dishes--just in time for the summer season and also just in time for Father's Day--so why not bring Dad to the party? Steven Raichlen is the bestselling author of twelve cookbooks and his show, Primal Grill runs on PBS. Previously he hosted four seasons of Barbecue University on PBS, and writes regularly for Food & Wine, Bon Appetit and other publications. The $65 per person price includes all grilled appetizers, a drink and a copy of Planet Barbecue that Raichlen will happily sign for you at the event. We'll have all of his other titles available for purchase that night, along with a cash bar.
