Two-Wheeled Trip on the Lower Chip
Rivers made find transportation corridors for humans for as long as we have moved around. In the modern era, you'll usually find at least a road, and maybe a rail line, in the flood plain of a big river. We join our friends of the Lower Chippewa River Alliance for a bike-seat view of a beautiful stretch of this sandy and island-laced river via an old rail line converted to a bike path. Accompanying us will be experts about the river's geology, human history and botany. We'll take a break in Durand for everyone to grab a bite to eat before returning to the starting point, either via the bike path or, for the adventurous, along a hilly alternate route. The whole trip will be about 17 miles. A state trail pass is required (you can buy a daily pass for $4 on the trail that morning if you do not have an annual pass).
