Whistler Wednesdays: Dollartorium, by Ron Pullins
Ralph is unemployed, unhappy and broke, so when a late, late night infomercial promises him riches the great American way, he goes for it and undertakes to open and manage a local franchise of the Dollartorium where he will sell money for money. After all, Ralph has been reading Plato, and he has come to wonder what is there for a good man to do in a world where the greedy have all the goods.
Of course, as in any comedy that owes a debt to Aristophanes, after a long, rude, crude, bumpy trip, Ralph is saved by his darling daughter who takes him back home to Kansas where they can raise pigs, watch their corn grow and dare to look their neighbors in the eye. ***
On six Wednesdays throughout our fifth season, we at Whistler in the Dark will host a series of New Play Readings at The Factory Theatre. Whistler in the Dark is always looking to connect with new collaborators and partners and it is our hope that this ongoing project will, in addition to celebrating the vibrant work of our local Boston playwrights, become a meeting ground for Boston's up-and-coming directors and actors.
With a different director and cast for each reading, Whistler Wednesdays promise to introduce the Whistler audience to a host of new voices and artists in Boston. Following each of the readings, you'll have the chance to join the playwright, director and actors for a moderated conversation about the work.
