OPERATION BABYLIFT tells the story of about 2,500 orphans who were airlifted out of South Vietnam at the end of the Vietnam War and adopted by U.S. citizens in what is known as "Operation Babylift." Thirty years later, about sixteen adoptees are interviewed in this heartfelt documentary from producer/director Tammy Nguyen. In a time before multi-culturalism, Americans adopted Vietnamese orphans from a country that was embroiled in stigma. From dealing with racism, cultural crisis and the search for birth parents, the film gives a voice to their unique journey of finding their identity and voice while living in a present that is haunted by their past. With testimonies from the adoptees, as well as the volunteers, parents, and organizations involved in the babylift, this film gives historical context and personal meaning to the unprecedented event. ~ Laura Fong
