Lucky Old Souls @ Moonstone is a monthly event, showcasing some of Philadelphia's most creative musicians in a laid-back, BYOB venue that combines the intimacy of a club with a concert hall's respect for the music.
Guitarist CHARLEE ELLERBE was a member of Ornette Coleman's Prime Time band for 14 years and appears on such classic albums as Dancing In Your Head, Body Meta, and In All Languages. He has also played with the Sun Ra Arkestra, Charles Earland, and The Trammps. Matrix 12:38 makes music that embraces the Prime Time values of freedom, funk, melody, originality, and surprise. The band's intensity and energy level will shock you. Their heavy grooves will have you dancing in your seat. Trumpeter MICHAEL RAY has been a member of the Sun Ra Arkestra since 1978. He is also known to many as a member of the frontline of Kool & The Gang, the top selling jazzy R&B group of the 1980s. Ray's career began with early stints with Patti LaBelle, The Stylistics, and The Delfonics.
RACKETSHOP, co-led by trombonist Dan Blacksberg and guitarist Nick Millevoi, plays its own brand of avant-garde funk, influenced primarily by Ornette Coleman and the late-'80s / early-'90s music of guitarist/composer Joe Morris.
