Project Live: House of Soul Vol. 7 Featuring Eric Roberson, Aloe Blacc, and Mulatto
Project Live: House of Soul featuring Eric Roberson, Aloe Blacc, and Mulatto on March 4th, 2007 at BB Kings Blues Club in Los Angeles, CA at Universal CityWalk. This event is presented by RK Entertainment Group, New Breed Entertainment, and LyVeaux, Inc.
Eric Roberson -
As the anticipatory buzz builds to just this side of impatience, the headliner takes the stage. From the moment he does, he has the audience eating out of his hand. Women shout his name and toss out song requests. Males and females sing along word for word as the tight six-piece backing combo feeds off the audience's vibe. Judging by this scenario, you might think a superstar was getting busy onstage. But the performer is singer/songwriter Eric Roberson. For fans of the independent soul scene, Roberson -- who has four releases out through his Blue Erro Soul label -- is every bit a high-profile crowd pleaser as a Prince, Usher or Mary J. Blige.
Through his publishing deal with EMI Music, Roberson has had his songs covered by Dwele, Musiq, Vivian Green and Will Downing. Like many of his indie peers, he also operates his own recording studio. Reached through a mailing list that numbers in the thousands, Roberson's ERF (Eric Roberson Family) Web devotees are known to travel substantial distances to see him in concert.
Aloe Blacc -
So Cal native Aloe Blacc began his recording career as an MC back in 1995, when he joined up with hip-hop producer Exile to form the mainstay indie rap group, Emanon. A few years later, Aloe would stow away on a Lootpack European tour and become fast friends with Oh No a relationship which led to many fruitful collaborations as a solo artist.
These days, Aloe Blacc has evolved into a true Renaissance man dubbed the indie R. Kelly by online retailer Turntable Lab. Recordings like his Latin cover of John Legends Ordinary People prove that not only can this multi-instrumentalist produce, rap and sing but he can flip it in Spanish, too. With an amazingly broad set of influences ranging widely from the acoustic guitar stylings of folk artist Cat Stevens, to the soul-stirring sounds of the Negro Spirituals, Aloe prides himself on the spectrum of his musical roots. His sound often forays into the digital R&B realm, but always grooves with a tinge of Latin and the pulse of hip-hop.
