Solo Sundays - 4/25
Solo Sundays, S.F.'s premier monthly showcase, presents select samplings of veteran virtuosos and top emerging talent in the intimate StageWerx theater near Union Square. Beyond stand-up and storytelling, solo theater creates casts of thousands - plus special effects - all bursting from a single performer. The results are hilarious and heartbreaking, passionate and provocative, ablaze with personal visions.
We are proud to present:
"Fortunate Daughter" written and performed by Thao P. Nguyen
Thao, 25, wakes up on a good morning in Vietnam, dons her full-metal jacket and goes deer hunting on Hamburger Hill with Forrest Gump and Martin Sheen. Only she survives. Later, her mother takes her to meet her grandmother for the first time. When she returns to the U.S., she doesn't get the home-coming that she expected. No parade, no dip-kiss from her girlfriend... not even a cookie. Thao needs to make some big changes. Maybe it's time to come out to her family
"All Atheists Are Muslim" Written and performed by Zahra Noorbakhsh
All Zahra wants to do, as a Muslim-Iranian woman, is to move in with her Atheist-White-American boyfriend and cheerfully tell her father that she doesn't need his blessing. How hard can that be? Oh yeah, and she doesn't want to be disowned, disdained, or forced to marry in the process.
