Lila Nelson with the Blushin Roulettes
She's coming back to humboldt County and she's bringing a party. You won't want to miss this exciting evening of talented pickers and singers. About Lila Nelson: "Fans of the soul-searching poetry of Leonard Cohen or Kate Wolf will love Lila Nelson." -Performing Songwriter Magazine "Great songs with poetic tendrils that cling" -Loudon Wainwright III Lovely lively literate music with a theatrical flair. Lila Nelson graces the stage with her guitar and harmonica, engaging the audience at every turn with her wit, thoughtful lyrics and ethereal voice. Much loved and missed in Arcata, this evening is sure to be a sell out. The Blushin' Roulettes. The Blushin' Roulettes hail from Mendocino county, California. This folksy twang gang delivers old-time tunes with a modern twist deeply rooted in feminine perspective. Songwriter/guitarist Angela Rose belts her sweet and sultry tunes of damsels in their bliss and distress in a warbling vibrato often compared to Iris Dement and Dolly Parton. Kate Stone adds her smooth vocal harmonies as she holds down the low end plucking and bowing her cello. Cas Sochacki adds subtle dobro licks while contributing on baritone duets with Rose. Add to this the tasty guitar licks of the legendary Buddy Stubbs, the chugga lugga rhythms of not-so-little drummer boy Jubal Stedman, and the soulful touch of Luke Stone (brother to Kate) on them ticklish ivories and you have the sound that engineer Calvin Turnbull (Old School Studio) captured on the Roulettes debut March Sketch. Originally intended as a demo for Angela and Kate to peddle on a tour of the northeastern US, this collection of 10 mostly live tracks earned the Roulettes enough love to convince them to re-release March Sketch as their official debut.
About Gwyneth and Monko: The amalgam of Gwyneth Moreland's "tangible gentleness" and Michael Monko's old-timey grunge creates a captivating performance that is sure to rouse the weary. Rooted deep in the American Tradition, their musical style is built on a foundation of old-time blues, pop, and true American country. Gwyneth Moreland's passionate vocals and lyrics are soulful, soothing and steadfast. Michael Monko, having mastered the nuances of "edgy" in his previous endeavor as heavy rock bassist, has seamlessly woven the fervency of grunge-rock into the more folkbased tunes of Gwyneth Moreland. Michael accompanies Gwyneth's voice and rhythm guitar with a variety of instruments including mandolin, acoustic and electric guitars and fiddle. Together, this dynamic duo has just finished the recording of their first project together: an EP titled "Good Old Horse". With their fresh recording in-hand, Gwyneth and Michael are currently touring the US and are adding new dates frequently, so keep an eye on their growing calendar of performances.
In June of last year, Gwyneth released her much anticipated debut solo album, "Wishbone". This solo project was recorded at Old School Studio and produced by Calvin Turnbull, who has worked with everyone from Bill Bottrell and Sheryl Crow to the English Beat, Eric McFadden and Kim Richey. The album includes a stellar cadre of guest musicians, including Emily Jane White and David Hayes (Van Morrison).
Since 2000, Gwyneth has belonged to a tight-knit community of musicians who claim the Northern California town of Mendocino as their home. She is a lead vocalist in her brother Morgan Daniel's acoustically charged band, Foxglove as well as a founding member of the sweet Americana band,
