Workshop presented by Kurt Hunter.
6 Tuesday sessions April 21st, 28th, May 5th, 12th, 19th, and 26th Each session 6 to 9pm
Each participant will design and construct a basic, nine string marionette. The primary materials will be wood and paper mache. The workshop will cover various types of jointing, weight distribution, control design and stringing. Costuming will be discussed, but construction of costumes will not be a part of the workshop. Basic manipulation will also be covered. Experience with wood working power tools is helpful, but not required. No previous experience assumed or necessary.
Artist bio: Kurt is a Minneapolis-based puppeteer, designer, teacher and author, best known for his innovative solo marionette work. He has studied with marionette masters Phillip Huber and Albrecht Roser. He has worked extensively with In the Heart of the Beast Puppet and Mask Theatre and Open Eye Figure Theatre. In 2008 he received an UNIMA-USA Citation of Excellence in Puppetry for "Sock Puppet Serenade."
