Animosity in the Illuminated Forest
Animals have something to say. And they're pissed. Animosity brings the Animal Kingdom into the forest, exploring the life and death of our creatures. Composer Cheryl Leonard performs 'Palmer's Adelies', voicing the decline of Palmer's Adelie Penguins in Antarctica. Leonard will premiere three compositions that address how climate change is causing the extinction of the Adelie Penguins: decreasing sea ice, changing weather patterns, and morphing ecosystems. Works will be performed live on stage by a small ensemble playing amplified natural objects, including the bones, shells and stones she collected in Antarctica, together with field recordings from Palmer Station. Leonard will conduct an artist talk of her work after the performances.
Multimedia artist Elise Baldwin presents her intermedia piece Chimera, part of the Ambit series, a group of live audiovisual turntable performances. The series focuses thematically on the circular nature of memory and the decomposition of physical presence over time.
Norweigan Sound Artist Elin Oyen Vister brings the alarming decline of Puffin Colony in the Rost Archipelago in Northern Norway to our shores. With extensive time, research and recordings in the area, Vister investigates a haunting reality for the species.
