Meisner Repetition Exercise
Sanford Meisner, Lee Strasberg, Stella Adler and Robert Lewis, were the earliest teachers of Stanislavsky's theories of acting in the United States. Each had a different interpretation of that "method."
The Repetition Exercise is a beginning exercise in the sense that it is where Meisner begins, but actors of any level of experience will benefit from this practice. The Repetition Exercise gently establishes the habit of being in the moment, actively listening to your scene partner and spontaneously responding to what is happening here and now.
We will start with, "Take the first thing." Then add, "Repeat what you hear." And move on to, "Change when something causes you to change." Later in the evening we will apply these to neutral dialogues.
