Organic Pest Protection for Fruit Trees
This workshop takes an ecological approach to protecting apples, pears and Asian pears from apple maggot fly and codling moth. A number of strategies from choosing more resistant cultivars, maintaining tree hygiene, using barriers (fruit shields or "footies"), installing traps, promoting beneficial insects and using organic sprays can reduce damage from harmful insects. This workshop explains each insectâs life cycle and discusses the various methods useful in reducing damage. Fruit shields, or "footies", can be purchased at the workshop.
