Jamie Oliver, The Naked Chef from the UK, tackled the shameful state of school dinners in the British schools in one of the most acclaimed TV documentary ever.
Kids were eating piles of processed junk and recoiled at the sight of fresh vegetables. And the terrible diet was leading to a health time-bomb, with soaring rates of obesity and hugely increased risks of heart disease and other life-threatening conditions for Britain's children.
Panel members: Ann Cooper, is the Iron Chef of Berkeley's school lunch program will discuss the state of school lunch programs in Berkeley and the USA. A professional chef hired by the Chez Panisse Foundation to transform years of talk about healthy food into actual dishes like chicken cacciatore and organic sushi.
Caroline Grannan - Child Nutrition representative for the Department of Children, Youth and their Families City of San Francisco. Caroline will discuss school lunch programs that exist in San Francisco. Reception with refreshments to follow.
