Event
Augusta Symphony Orchestra Spring Concert
Anticipated program includes:
Robert Schumann, Symphony #4, Revised 1851 Version
Originally conceived and written in 1841, it was initially performed with Schumann conducting, and then set aside unpublished for ten years. Actually the second symphony composed by Schumann, this piece was revised by its composer in 1851 and initially conducted by Felix Mendelssohn. Each of the two versions has been the subject of both high praise and self-indulgent criticism with many conductors feeling the need to make their own "corrections" here and there. We will honor the genius of Schumann by playing the 1851 version with only the composer's own revisions.
Suite in D Major by Arthur Bird
Arthur Bird (23 July 1856 22 December 1923) was an American composer, for many years resident in Germany. Born in Cambridge, Massachusetts, he studied in Europe and spent a year at Weimar with Franz Liszt. Bird died in Berlin in 1923.
Special Guest performance by Singer/Songwriter Kate Schrock with orchestral accompaniment
Maine born Kate Schrock's unique blend of rock; jazz; gospel and pop fuses under her voice and resonates with a quiet yet powerful authority.
Kate Schrock fills her songs with searching, often battle-scarred characters. She tells their stories through pain and passion, poetry and melody leaving no stone unturned in her unabashed revelations of humanity on a very personal level.
