Event
Bent of the River Festival and Barn Dance
The Bent of the River will be offering exciting programs for the whole family. Enjoy live bird of prey presentations from our friends at Audubon Sharon under the big tent. Volunteers will help your kids through many hands-on activities including crafts to take home.
Kids of all ages will be able to challenge their friends to a variety of nature scavenger hunts. Some will test your skills to look and listen. We'll also be introducing families to Letterboxing and Geocaching- 2 great ways to work together and explore the 15 miles of trails here at the Bent of the River. The Bent education staff and volunteer naturalists will be offering nature walks throughout the afternoon. Younger families can join Education manager Ken Elkins for a 5 Senses Adventure. Those who can stand still quietly are invited to observe a bird banding demonstration, led by IBA coordinator Chris Field. Spring is also a prime time to appreciate the wildflowers, reptiles, and amphibians, so we'll have at least one program to learn more about your favorite flora or fauna.
Barn dancing will start later in the afternoon, and continue through to the end of our evening. Wild Goose Nation will be on hand to teach everyone some quick and easy dances to get you up and enjoying the footstomping fun! If you're looking for a slower pace, then visit the silent auction, proceeds from which will support our education programs.
This year we're including a picnic dinner from Hen of the Woods! Their organic offerings will satisfy the most mature tastebuds. Enjoy your dinner sitting down at a table, out on a blanket, or taken home. Children will receive a finger-friendly option, with a special miniature version for toddlers that can be eaten on the run.
Your tickets to the Bent Fest include all of these activities, and your picnic dinner! Thanks to our generous sponsors we have been able to keep ticket costs low. Tickets are limited, so reserve yours now!
