April - May 2010 Market Ghost Tour
Market Ghost Tours ($15) are 60-75 minute walking tours through the Pike Place Market based on the stories of hauntings shared in the community and the history of Seattle. It is rare to stroll through the Market at night. This is the only night guided tour in the Market and offers a unique perspective of the area. In the district is Seattle's first mortuary, the remnants of a graveyard, and an old brothel that still has a red glow cast on it's side.
Each story on the tour has been given a thorough vetting, and the owner of the tour has done countless hours of historical research about some of the experiences in the Market. Seattle is not unique in its many stories of ghosts, every city shares stories. Seattle is unique however in that it went through major renovation for 30 years after the Great fire in 1889. Some believe that it is the movement of earth, structures and graves that create Seattles many stories.
The Market Ghost Tour received the title: #2 Ghost Tour in the US by Trip Advisor in 2009. The tour had record attendance the same year, thanks in part to mention by CCN online, The Chicago Tribune, and coverage by local media in the Northwest. The ghost hunter and the historian can both enjoy this tour and learn a bit about Seattle's eccentric history.
"Terrific fun. Whether you're a local who wants something entertaining to do at night, or if you have an out-of-town guest visiting, it's a fun and educational tour. I learned a lot about Pike Place and areas of downtown & Pioneer Square. And it's not boring history, it's all very entertaining (brothels, murderers, etc). I would do this tour multiple times. I definitely would like to do it as the sun goes down earlier in the fall, so that it's night time during the tour." - yelp.com review
