Arsenic and Old Lace -- by Joseph Kesselring. This classic 1942 comedy tells the story of the Brewster family, unusual denizens of Brooklyn during the Second World War. It seems that the two elderly aunts, Abbey and Martha, have started up a two woman campaign against loneliness  and the beneficiaries of their campaign are the lonely old bachelors who come to their Brooklyn home as tenants. These pathetic old poops are soon put out of their misery. When the aunties' nephew, Mortimer, finds out what is going on, he does everything he can to stop the campaign and keep the well-meaning ladies out of Sing-Sing. The twists and turns of the plot and the surreal but down to earth situations have made Arsenic and Old Lace and American comedy classic for seven decades.
Directed by Jason Edington. Playing January 30 through February 15.
