The Slow Food Northern NJ Fine Food & Wine Tasting
Slow Food Northern NJ Fine Food & Wine Tasting-- On Saturday, May 19, 2007 the Northern New Jersey Chapter of Slow Food and the Greater Newark Conservancy will bring together the state's foremost chefs, food artisans, and winemakers for an afternoon feast for all the senses. Inside the beautiful 1916 Mediterranean-style Van Vleck House in Montclair, guests will sample signature dishes from New Jersey's top restaurants, munch on breads and cheeses from its finest bakers and cheesemakers, and taste fine wines from around the state and around the world. They will also be treated to guided tours of the spectacular Van Vleck Gardens, renowned especially for their hybrid rhododendrons and wisteria. Best of all, proceeds will benefit The Greater Newark Conservancy's Living Laboratories Program, which offers students in Newark and surrounding schools the ability to create school gardens while learning about the environment and horticulture. This program also teaches students about what steps they can take to protect the environment. The afternoon's events will also feature raffles of restaurant certificates, fine wines, chocolates, artisanal foods, and spa treatments, with proceeds earmarked to support summer student volunteers of the School Garden Program.
