Dennis Nyback: Forbidden Cinema
Dennis Nyback is an independent film archivist and historian who has created over 300 programs from his archive of thousands of rare, forgotten, forbidden and amazing short 35mm and 16mm films. The Red Vic is proud to present two of these programs and to have him in person at each show to introduce them and answer questions.
Terrorism Light and Dark is a revealing program of cartoons, short films and propaganda clips displaying Americas schizophrenic view of terrorism before 9/11 which includes, among others, the Cold War US Government film, What You Need to Know About Biological Warfare and Buster Keatons Cops.
I Know Why Youre Afraid is Nybacks program of educational films that should never have been shown to impressionable children! Included are the darkly hilarious bus safety film, Death Zones (1975), an excerpt from the drivers ed shocker, Mechanized Death (1961) and many more macabre films that does much to explain our cultures paranoia.
